The Kindness of Neighbors

My neighbors did something so nice that it blows my mind, and I have to share.
We have been fortunate to have great neighbors. We share an interest in gardening, keep a watchful eye on each others’ houses when we are away, and enjoy holiday parties together - always hosted by my wonderful neighbors. I wish I could take them with me.
If you’ve been following my blog, you know that my husband and I have been clearing out our house to put on the market in preparation for our move to Albania.
Anyway, they had us over for dinner the other night. They were preparing for a month long vacation to Alaska and northwest Canada, and would not return before we left for Shëngjin. They are travelers, and enjoy experiencing the world. They shared many stories of the places they’d been, including the plans in the works to be in Eastern Europe in 2027. So we’ve made tentative plans to meet up then. Yay!
We shared our moving trials and tribulations. A far more tedious topic than their travel stories. House cleaner. Steam cleaning the carpets. Getting Valentino certified to enter Albania. And on and on. We told them that when the last bed was gone, we were going to have to move to an AirBnB while we finished up. I’d been hoping to find one nearby, so we would still be close to our house.
There were hugs and well wishes, then the evening ended.
The next morning, my neighbor came to me, and offered to let us use their house until we travel. Dan’s jaw about hit the floor when I told him. It’s nearly impossible to articulate what this act of kindness means to me. The stress this has removed has been tremendous. I am so incredibly grateful.
